Bad voltage PIco UPS HV3.0 on battery

Post by 1Drop » Thu May 25, 2017 5:33 pm

Hi guys,

We are using a RPi3 with the PIco UPS HV3.0. Everything is set up correctly, the frimwire is updated (0x32) and the PIco takes over when the PSU is unplugged.

When the system is running on battery mode however, we get the little lightning bolt icon ( Image )linked to a wrong uiput voltage for the PI. The icon appears, stays there for 1-2s then disappears 1-2s and comes back.

We first thought that out touchscreen was using too much power but even when going out with the HDMI on a normal screen the warning would persist.

We then used the pico_status script to check the voltage and we got a RPi voltage of 5.2V on battery mode (vs 4.9V with the PSU on). The measurement of the voltage directly on the Pi using a multimeter (PP3 and PP7) confirmed this value (5.24).

Apparently the icon shows up if the voltage of the Pi is below 4.8V or above 5.2V so we think the 5.24 V are why the icon appears. We tried with different batteries (480mAh 3.7V, 2000mAh 3.7v, 6000mAh 3.7V) and we always had the same issue.

The questions are: Is is bad for us? Can we keep using our PI + PIco? Do you know where this overvoltage is coming from?

Thanks in advance

I am experiencing the same issue when my RPi3 is under light load and running on battery (LiFePO4).

Could this potentially cause any issues?
